Katherine and Richard's Heartfelt Central Park Wedding: A Celebration of Love and Family
Description
Explore Katherine and Richard’s charming Central Park wedding, blending family, personal touches, and stunning NYC settings for an unforgettable day.

Katherine and Richard celebrated their love at Central Park this June, with friends and family traveling from their home in Burton upon Trent, Derbyshire. They have two young sons, Sam and Max, and the couple’s engagement story is one of spontaneity and sentiment. On a walk home after a rare evening out, Richard surprised Katherine with a ring he had selected himself. "It was perfect,” she recalls, “I was so surprised I burst into tears and said yes.” Their wedding would affirm their commitment, symbolizing their values and love for one another.

The couple initially toyed with the thought of a wedding in Italy, but they soon found that the remote location didn’t resonate with them. They had previously visited New York City during Katherine's thirtieth birthday in winter, and the memory of the vibrant city stayed with them. Returning during summer with family felt like the right choice, providing the perfect backdrop for their wedding.

Once they settled on NYC, selecting the venue became their next priority. Katherine and Richard wanted a location that accommodated their 22 guests comfortably while also providing options for weather fluctuations. They initially considered Wagner Cove but ultimately chose the Ladies’ Pavilion. This charming pavilion not only offered the necessary space, but its sheltered design also ensured protection, whether from the sun or rain.

Their stay in Brooklyn at The Box House Hotel provided ample space for their family, something that can be hard to find in Manhattan. Katherine mentioned, “The views from our terrace of the Manhattan skyline were fantastic,” which not only allowed them a restful stay but also set an exciting tone for their wedding week.

When it came to photography, Katherine had a tough time picking favorites given the abundance of beautiful shots captured throughout the day. They particularly cherished images set against the New York skyline, particularly those taken under the pagoda, and a sweet moment right after their ceremony in the Pavilion where they shared their first kiss as a married couple.

Katherine chose a stunning gown by designer Jenny Packham and complemented it with chic shoes from Harriet Wilde. A touching detail was the inclusion of memorial charms bearing the pictures of their passed parents, handmade by Delaney Jewelry Designs. Katherine wrapped these charms with ribbon around her wrist to honor their presence on her special day. Additionally, she crafted her own bouquet using paper flowers, incorporating heartfelt messages from loved ones who could not attend.

For hair and makeup, Katherine opted for help at The Beehive Salon in Brooklyn, while she took the lead on her makeup, ensuring she felt authentically herself on her wedding day.

After the ceremony and the wedding photoshoot, the couple and their guests embarked on a vintage Trolley Bus, which was waiting outside the elegant Dakota building. The bus transported them to their reception at a private wine cellar in Scotaditto Osteria Toscana. Katherine fondly describes the venue as beautifully adorned, with exceptional food and service. To add a personal touch to the celebrations, they arranged for guitarist Brian Ripps to play during the reception, dedicated to their special song—the Ryan Adams rendition of “Wonderwall.” He even played the Cars theme for their son, who adored it, creating a joyful atmosphere that catered to all tastes.

The day unfolded beautifully for Katherine and Richard, encapsulating the essence of their family-oriented approach to love and marriage. This celebration not only marked their commitment to each other but also highlighted their deep-rooted appreciation for family and community. Their Central Park wedding truly reflected their personalities, values, and affection for each other, making it a memorable day for all.

For couples looking to plan a Central Park wedding of their own, the experiences and choices of Katherine and Richard can provide valuable insights. From thoughtful venue selection to personal touches that honor family, their story serves as inspiration for any couple eager to make their wedding day special and reflective of their unique journey.
